EILEEN MCDARGH'S
Resiliency Report
Published monthly and when the mood strikes.
Update from Eileen
Dateline: Mammoth Mountain, Eastern Sierras. Mid-October
It had been three years since we ventured some seven hours from home to take a break. But this mountain community seemed different than times past. Restaurants were closed or being remodeled. Entire blocks of hotels had been torn down, making way for who-knows-what. Dining hours were shorter. And the gondola to take us to the mountain top was closed until the “shoulder season” was over.
“Shoulder season”???
We discovered that this is a travel industry term. It's defined as the time between the high and low travel seasons at a specific destination. It’s a time to regroup, to remodel, to take time off, to oil machinery and to rethink what we want when the “high” season begins.
Sounds like a perfect plan for me, too. What if I—if we— created a shoulder season now until the new year? What if we use this shoulder season of November and December to regroup, remodel, and re-think? What if we oil our mental, emotional, and physical resources so we enter 2023 clearer, stronger, and committed to make a world that works for all. What if we took time to really clarify our purpose? Our Why? **
That’s what I am going to do. You won’t hear from me until 2023. I am announcing my shoulder season. Here’s my challenge to you: can you make this a shoulder season for yourself? What will you do—or not do? Please email me: Eileen @eileenmcdargh.com I’d love to know. You might give me ideas I can use.
Happy Thanksgiving. Happy Hannukah. Happy Kwanza. Merry Christmas.
Until 2023…
Eileen
** If you need help with discovering your WHY, I have an assessment you can take. Email me and I’ll give you the details and the cost!
Yep—it’s time to vote!
Hopefully, this will be a much easier election than on our national front!
I’m asking for your vote for my position as one of the top Global Gurus in Communication. I’ve been in the top 10 for a number of years!
I would sure appreciate and value your consideration for the 2023 Best Global Communication Gurus.
In order to secure voting you need to use your Google or LinkedIn account to log-in. They do that to prevent people from voting more than one time for the same person. Once you log-in follow the directions to vote!
Voting will end on 15th December 2022. Thanks ever so much for taking your time to help me!!!!
Let’s Start a Shoulder Season
November/December 2022
Just to make you laugh!
“The starting pay is $40,000. Later it can go up to $80,000.” Great. I’ll start later.”
Trust the science. Studies show that if your parents didn’t have children, there’s a high probability you won’t either.
Driving Tip: Save the business cards of people you don’t like. If you accidentally hit a parked car, just write, “Sorry” on the back of the card and leave it on the windshield.
When I get a headache, I take two aspirin and keep away from children just like the bottle says to do.
Seriously? “Your call is very important to us. Please enjoy this 40-minute flute solo".
I envy people who grow old gracefully. They age like fine wine. I’m aging like milk: Getting sour and chunky.
Must Read Book & Hot Off the Press
Discounted thru November. It’s the 30th anniversary of my publisher Berrett-Koehler. Janelle Barlow is a long-time colleague and dear friend.
A Complaint Is a Gift, 3rd Edition (& Workbook) by Janelle Barlow (& workbook with Victoria Holtz)
The growing epidemic of Karens and Kens nationwide render customer complaints impossible to stomach. But in this revised third edition, Janelle Barlow again shows us how we can deal. New stories and strategies teach how to take customer complaints as valuable pieces of market research to help generate better products and better services—resulting in greater customer loyalty.
